There’s no stopping the vast technology improvements being made over the past couple of years. With that being said, home buyers expect new homes to be equipped with the latest technological advances. So much so that they have definitely shaped the direction in which the future of HVAC is going. To keep up with demand, there have to be some serious HVAC innovations in motion.
Movement-activated Air Conditioning
A new air conditioning design being worked on by engineers at MIT utilizes sensors along aluminum rods hung from the ceiling. This means that movement will activate the sensors, kicking on the A/C when there are people in the area. Pretty cool concept, right? Seems simple & almost silly that it hasn’t been tried before. This is one of the few ways the future of HVAC will help reduce energy & utility costs.
Ice-powered Air Conditioning
A California-based company came up with this genius idea: an ice-powered A/C system. How exactly does that work? Well, the “Ice Bear” works by freezing water in a tank overnight. That same tank will then help cool a building the next day. So far, the tank has had enough to cool off a building for up to six hours, after which, a conventional commercial air conditioner takes over.
Geothermal Heat Pumps
Geothermal technology promises to save you much money over its lifetime. It has been around since the 1940s, but never really got on board until recently. Many homeowners now have “green-living” as a priority, which is how the geothermal heat pump seems to have grown in popularity nowadays. The pump gets its energy directly from the earth through an underground looped pipe that absorbs heat & carries it into a home. A bonus is a fact that the pump gives access to free hot water!
Time will tell which HVAC innovation will take over in the future. What are your thoughts on the few we have highlighted? Let us know!
